Gonzo No 1 is a digital artist from Germany with a good day2day job, but an even bigger passion for generative art, procedural tools and mixing street art with procedural art in animations, walls and music.

In the late 90s he happened to end up in Munich and quickly connected with the local sub culture, drum’n’bass and music scene. He did spend his days as a designer in early internet startups and founded a digital design and visual arts studio. Back then you couldn’t really tell if this was a design studio or an arts collective. He first contributed with flyers, posters, early digital internet art, edgy animated live installations, crossover art exhibitions between street and generative art and left his visual marks from Augsburg, Stuttgart, Munich to Berlin, Barcelona and the US, collaborating with different crews, artists and locations.
Today he‘s still into drum‘n‘bass, urban art, club culture and still working as a designer in startups during the day. But creatives also need to keep moving — so between the 90s and today he also founded (and closed) a streetart onlineshop, a record label, grew his design studio and left it again when it became too big (100+ people) to not compromise on his art. Gonzo No 1 doesn’t need a lot of sleep. Besides his day job there’s always room for explorations between urban art, coded, generative art, music, procedural art, animations and everything in between. You can call it a double life. He calls it an endless hyper-crossover-inspiration loop.

As one of the first german artists working in the field of generative art almost 20 years ago his work could be seen in books and publications, art installations, creative conferences, clubs and exhibitions. It was about time to enter the space of the global NFT phenomenon to present it to a fresh and bigger audience.

PS:
Yes, I’m talking about Gonzo No 1 in third person. It feels right. He’s a brotherly additional character. There’s overlaps, but it’s not my usual day-business mode. On another note: I’m still a lot into music – the main driver of inspiration for me – and I’m still mixing sets for myself and my friends: y7z.de/mixes/ — or is Gonzo No 1 mixing them? I can’t really tell for sure. We’re brothers anyway.
